Citymates, LLC
Terms of Service
Last updated: October 24, 2026 · Version 1
Agreement
These Terms govern your use of the websites, mobile apps, mixers, and other services provided by Citymates, LLC (“Citymates,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account, buying a ticket, or otherwise using Citymates, you agree to these Terms, our Community Guidelines, and our Privacy Policy.
PLEASE READ THE DISPUTE RESOLUTION SECTION CAREFULLY. IT REQUIRES, WITH LIMITED EXCEPTIONS, THAT DISPUTES BETWEEN YOU AND CITYMATES BE RESOLVED BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION, AND IT WAIVES CLASS ACTIONS AND JURY TRIALS. YOU CAN OPT OUT OF ARBITRATION WITHIN 30 DAYS AS EXPLAINED BELOW.
Eligibility
To use Citymates you must:
- Be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
- Live in the United States and complete ID verification with a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Not be prohibited from using the service under applicable law, and not have been removed from Citymates before.
- Not have been convicted of, or pleaded no contest to, a felony or any crime involving violence or sexual misconduct, and not be required to register as a sex offender.
You may have only one account. We may refuse, approve, or remove any profile at our discretion.
What Citymates is
Citymates is a vetted, video-first dating service. Members record video answers, set their own questions, and connect by answering each other’s questions on video. Independent Hosts run in-person mixers for members. Citymates helps people meet; it does not guarantee matches, dates, relationships, or any particular outcome.
Verification, review, and background checks
Every member has their profile reviewed by a person before it can be shown to others. Verifying your ID is optional; members who verify get a Verified badge. You can verify with a selfie face match, or with your ID alone and a staff review, as described in our Privacy Policy. Hosts also pass a background check.
CITYMATES DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON MEMBERS. CITYMATES MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES AS TO THE CONDUCT, IDENTITY, INTENTIONS, OR VERACITY OF MEMBERS. ID verification and profile review reduce risk, but they can’t guarantee anyone’s identity, intentions, or behavior. You are responsible for your own safety. Please read our Safety Tips.
We reserve the right to check, and you authorize us to check, public records such as sex offender registries at any time, for example after a report about you. If we decide to use a consumer reporting agency, we will get your separate authorization first where the law requires it.
Your account
Give us accurate information, keep it up to date, and keep your sign-in secure. You’re responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away at support@citymates.com if you think someone else has accessed it. You can delete your account at any time in your settings.
Conduct
You agree to follow our Community Guidelines on Citymates, in chat, and at mixers. In short: be real, be respectful, keep it appropriate, never ask for money, and never harass, threaten, or harm anyone. You may not scrape, copy, or disrupt the service, evade our safety tools (including contact masking and moderation), access other accounts, or use Citymates for any commercial purpose we haven’t approved.
We may remove content, limit features, suspend, or permanently ban any account that we believe breaks these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or that puts others at risk, with or without notice. You can appeal by emailing support@citymates.com within 30 days.
Interactions with other members
You are solely responsible for your interactions with other members, online and in person. Citymates is not responsible for the conduct of any member or Host. Use caution and good judgment, meet in public, and report anyone who makes you feel unsafe. If you are in danger, call 911.
Your content and AI processing
You own the photos, videos, answers, questions, and messages you submit (“your content”). You give Citymates a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transcribe, analyze, reproduce, display, and distribute your content only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service, including showing it to other members as the product intends and, unless you turn it off, to friends a member invites through an Ask friends link. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content kept as described in our Privacy Policy (for example, safety records).
You agree that your videos will be transcribed and analyzed with AI as described in our Privacy Policy to create summaries, slider placements, match %, and private fit scores. Scores are estimates, not facts about you, and are never shown publicly. You can opt out of AI scoring in your settings.
You confirm that you have the rights to everything you submit, that it shows only you (or people who agreed to appear), and that it doesn’t violate any law or anyone’s rights. Don’t screenshot, record, download, or share anyone else’s videos, messages, or personal information without their permission, except through Ask friends as described below.
Ask friends. You may share another member’s profile, or an answer someone sent to your questions, only through the private Ask friends links in the app. Friends who open a link see the person’s first name, age, photos, bio, interests, and profile videos (or, for an answer, the questions, video answers, transcripts, and summaries), never their last name, location, match %, contact details, or fit scores, and can leave a vote and note under their first name. Links expire after 72 hours, you can revoke them at any time, and they stop working if either member blocks the other or the person is no longer visible to you. Chat messages can never be shared. Members are shareable by default; you can opt out in Settings at any time.
Citymates Pro subscription
Citymates Pro is an optional paid subscription, currently $9.99 per month, that adds features such as unlimited Discover and answers, your answers shown first to the people you answer, and the full match breakdown. The current price and features are shown before you buy.
- Automatic renewal. IF YOU BUY PRO, IT RENEWS AUTOMATICALLY AT THE END OF EACH BILLING PERIOD, AT THE PRICE SHOWN WHEN YOU SUBSCRIBED, AND YOUR PAYMENT METHOD IS CHARGED THROUGH STRIPE UNTIL YOU CANCEL.
- Cancel online anytime. Go to Account settings on the website or Profile in the app and choose Manage subscription. That opens our billing portal, where you can cancel in a few clicks. You can also email support@citymates.com from the address on your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Pro until then. Deleting your account cancels Pro immediately.
- Refunds. Except as described below or required by law, payments are non-refundable, including partial periods. If we ban your account for breaking these Terms, you won’t receive a refund for the remaining period.
- Price changes. We’ll email you before a price change takes effect, and you can cancel before it applies.
- App store purchases. If you subscribe through Apple or Google, their billing and refund terms apply, and you manage or cancel the subscription in your app store account.
Your right to cancel (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin). You may cancel your subscription, without penalty or obligation, at any time before midnight of the third business day after the date you subscribed, and get a full refund. If you die before the end of your subscription period, your estate is entitled to a refund of the part of any payment allocable to the period after your death. If you become disabled so that you can’t use Citymates before the end of your subscription period, you are entitled to a refund of the part of any payment allocable to the period after your disability. To cancel and request a refund, email support@citymates.com with a dated notice that says you are canceling this agreement, from the email address on your account.
Citymates Matchmaker subscription
Citymates Matchmaker is an optional paid subscription, currently $49 per month, separate from and in addition to Citymates Pro. The current price and what’s included are shown before you buy.
- What you get. We assign you a Host in your city to act as your matchmaker. Staff may reassign you to a different Host at any time. Your matchmaker reviews your profile, your videos, and the brief you write about what you’re looking for, and sends you up to 3 hand-picked introductions (“intros”) in each rolling 30-day period, each with a short note about why. 3 is a maximum, not a promise: how many intros you get depends on who is available in your city and fits what you and they are looking for. We don’t guarantee any intro, match, date, or relationship.
- Both people say yes. Each intro is shown to both people, who have 7 days to accept or pass. A chat opens only if both accept. If either person passes or the intro expires, it closes for both of you, and we don’t tell the other person whether you passed or just didn’t answer.
- Your brief. Your matchmaker and our staff can read your brief. Don’t include contact details, or anything you don’t want your matchmaker to see. You can edit it at any time.
- How Hosts are paid. Your matchmaker is an independent Host, not a Citymates employee. Citymates pays them a fixed fee for each intro they send that both people accept. They aren’t paid by you, and they aren’t paid more for introducing any particular person.
- Being picked. If you’re an approved member, a matchmaker working for a subscriber in your city may suggest you as an intro, whether or not you subscribe. You can pass on any intro, and blocking or reporting someone works as it does everywhere else on Citymates.
- Automatic renewal. IF YOU BUY MATCHMAKER, IT RENEWS AUTOMATICALLY AT THE END OF EACH MONTHLY BILLING PERIOD, AT THE PRICE SHOWN WHEN YOU SUBSCRIBED, AND YOUR PAYMENT METHOD IS CHARGED THROUGH STRIPE UNTIL YOU CANCEL. Matchmaker is billed through Stripe, including when you start it from the app.
- Cancel online anytime. Go to Account settings on the website or Profile in the app and choose Manage subscription, or email support@citymates.com from the address on your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep your matchmaker until then, and intros already sent stay open until they’re answered or expire. Canceling Matchmaker doesn’t change Citymates Pro, and canceling Pro doesn’t change Matchmaker. Deleting your account cancels both immediately.
- If we can’t assign a matchmaker. If we haven’t assigned you a Host within 7 days after you subscribe, you can cancel and get a full refund by emailing support@citymates.com.
- If you move. If you move outside the area your Citymates city serves, you can cancel and get a refund of the unused part of your current billing period by emailing support@citymates.com.
- Refunds and price changes. Except as described in this section, in “Your right to cancel” above (which applies to Matchmaker as well as Pro), or as required by law, payments are non-refundable, including partial periods. If we ban your account for breaking these Terms, you won’t receive a refund for the remaining period. We’ll email you before a price change takes effect, and you can cancel before it applies.
Mixers and tickets
Mixers are in-person events for approved members, held at public venues and run by Hosts. The name on a ticket must match the account that bought it, and tickets can’t be transferred or resold. You’ll check in at the event.
- Your cancellations. If you cancel more than 24 hours before a mixer starts, you’ll get a full refund to your original payment method. Within 24 hours of the start, tickets are non-refundable.
- Our cancellations. If a Host or Citymates cancels a mixer, every paid ticket is refunded in full.
- Removal. A Host or venue may ask anyone to leave for breaking the Community Guidelines or venue rules, without a refund.
- Alcohol and venues. Venues, not Hosts or Citymates, serve alcohol and set their own age and conduct rules. You must follow them, and you are responsible for drinking responsibly and getting home safely.
- Photos. Don’t photograph or record other attendees without their permission.
Hosts
Hosts are independent contractors, not employees, agents, or partners of Citymates. Applying means recording screening video answers that are transcribed and scored with AI to help our staff review them; staff make every decision, and we may decline any application. See Host applicants in our Privacy Policy. To host, you must be approved through our screening, pass a background check, and agree to our Host terms and Host conduct rules, including: hosting only at approved public venues, never sharing any member’s details, not accepting cash or gifts from members, not pursuing romantic or sexual contact with attendees at a mixer you’re hosting, and calling 911 for any emergency before contacting Citymates. Host earnings are a share of ticket revenue as described in the Host terms, paid through Stripe Connect. Hosts who act as matchmakers are paid a fixed fee for each intro both people accept; they must keep members’ briefs and profiles confidential, use them only to choose intros, never contact a client or a suggested member outside Citymates about an intro, and never accept payment or gifts from members for intros. Approval doesn’t guarantee events, attendance, or earnings, and we may remove a Host at any time to protect members. Hosts are responsible for their own taxes.
Our service and intellectual property
Citymates and its licensors own the service, brand, software, and materials. We give you a limited, personal, revocable, non-transferable license to use the service for its intended purpose. We may change, add, or remove features at any time.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Citymates is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any member is who they say they are or will behave in any particular way.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Citymates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, or for any damages arising from the conduct of any member, Host, venue, or other third party, online or offline. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid Citymates in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions don’t allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Citymates harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your content, your use of the service, your interactions with others, or your violation of these Terms or the law.
Dispute resolution and arbitration agreement
Scope. This agreement covers any dispute, claim, or controversy between you and Citymates arising out of or relating to these Terms, prior versions of them, the service, or your relationship with us, including claims that arose before you agreed to these Terms (a “Dispute”). It does not cover (a) individual claims in small claims court, which either of us may choose instead of arbitration, (b) claims to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property, or (c) claims of sexual assault or sexual harassment, which you may bring in court under the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act.
Informal resolution first. Before starting an arbitration or small claims case, the party with the Dispute must send the other a written notice describing it and the relief sought. Send yours to legal@citymates.com with your name, the email address on your account, a description of the Dispute, and the relief you want; we’ll send ours to the email on your account. If we can’t resolve it within 60 days after the notice is received, either party may start an arbitration. Statutes of limitation and filing deadlines are paused during those 60 days. Completing this step is required before filing.
Binding individual arbitration. Any Dispute not resolved informally or in small claims court will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by National Arbitration and Mediation (“NAM”) under its Comprehensive Dispute Resolution Rules and Procedures and, where they apply, its Mass Filing Supplemental Rules, available at namadr.com. If you live in California, ADR Services, Inc. will administer instead, under its rules. If neither can serve, we’ll agree on another administrator. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this agreement. The arbitrator decides questions of arbitrability, except that a court decides whether the class action waiver, the mass filing procedures, or the informal resolution requirement are enforceable or were met. Arbitration may be held by video, by phone, on written submissions, or in person in the county where you live. Fees follow the administrator’s consumer fee schedule; if you can’t afford your share of the filing fee, tell us and we’ll consider paying it in good faith. If we start an arbitration against you, we pay all administrator fees.
Class action and jury trial waiver. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, YOU AND CITYMATES EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL AND THE RIGHT TO BRING OR TAKE PART IN A CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. The arbitrator may award relief only to the individual party seeking it and only as needed for that party’s individual claim. If a court decides this waiver can’t be enforced for a particular claim for public injunctive relief, that claim goes to court in Davidson County, Tennessee after the arbitration of the remaining claims ends.
Mass filings. If 25 or more similar Demands are filed against Citymates by the same or coordinated counsel, or Citymates files 25 or more similar Demands, within 90 days of each other, they will be handled in stages. Counsel for each side selects 10 Demands (20 total) to proceed first as bellwether cases, each before a different arbitrator. The other Demands are held, without fees owed by either side, and limitation periods for them are paused. After the bellwether cases are decided, the parties will mediate the remaining Demands in good faith for 90 days. If mediation fails, the remaining Demands proceed in further batches as NAM directs, unless either side opts to resolve them in court. A court may enforce this paragraph.
30-day right to opt out. You can reject this arbitration agreement by emailing legal@citymates.com within 30 days after you first accept these Terms, with the subject line “Arbitration opt-out,” your name, the email address on your account, and a clear statement that you want to opt out of arbitration. Opting out doesn’t affect anything else in these Terms. If we change this agreement later, you can reject the change by emailing us within 30 days after it takes effect, and the version you accepted before continues to apply.
Severability. If any part of this arbitration agreement is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, except that if the class action waiver is found unenforceable for a Dispute as a whole, that Dispute will proceed in court and not in arbitration.
Governing law and venue
These Terms and any Dispute are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and by the Federal Arbitration Act for the arbitration agreement. Any Dispute that is not arbitrated, any action to compel arbitration or confirm an award, and any claim excluded from arbitration will be brought only in the state or federal courts located in Davidson County, Tennessee, and you and Citymates consent to their jurisdiction, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
Changes and termination
We may update these Terms. We’ll post changes here with a new “Last updated” date and tell you in the app or by email before material changes take effect. If you keep using Citymates after that, you accept the updated Terms. You can stop using Citymates and delete your account at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
